This is the 2012 remake of the original Arnold Schwarzenegger version.

At the end of the 21stcentury after a global nuclear war most of planet has been left uninhabitable and only 2 places left where people live: the United Federation of Britain (UFB) and The Colony.

The UFB is wealthy while The Colony is where the workers live who work in UFB. There is only mode of transport between the 2 places – The Fall. The Fall is like a giant elevator that “drops” people between The Colony and UFB in 17 minutes.

Terrorist or Freedom Fighters, you decide, are carrying out bombings in UFB for their right to independence.

Douglas Quaid (Colin Farrell) lives in The Colony and works building robotic soldiers in the UFB. He is becoming bored with his life and is having nightmares so he decides to visit Rekall who fantasies can be implanted as real memories. He opts for the secret agent experience but something goes wrong and he is now on the run.

His wife of 7 years, Lori (Kate Beckinsale), is now trying to kill him but with help of Melina (Jessica Biel), the girl his nightmare, they go on the run to try and save the world.

But is it real or his implanted experience?

Overall, this is a great action-packed sci-fi film and while I love the original version I enjoyed this one much better. With great special effects and gadgets like phones built into the hand it is non-stop excitement and the updated effects are excellent.

While Farrell is no Arnie he plays the play well very and Kate Beckinsale as the villian is superb.

Highly recommended.
