Two Dogs and a Garden by Derelie Cherry Review
Reviewed by Laura Fairbairn
I love dogs and I find gardening to be very therapeutic so the title ‘Two Dogs and a Garden’ caught my attention straight away – two dogs and a garden sounds perfect to me!
This hardback book comes with quite a padded cover and it is instantly attractive to the eye with a clear title, fabulous pictures and a beautiful array of vivid colours.
The book is not just a book about a beautiful garden – it is the story of a dream coming true and two dogs providing lots of love and companionship in a little piece of paradise. It took only seconds for me to find tears in my eyes – the book is dedicated to the memory of Trudy (one of the authors Derelie’s gorgeous dogs) and the picture towards the front of the book is an instant indication of the influence this little character had on the lives of those around her.
The garden in Paradise is located an hour north of Sydney just inland of the Central Coast and the book uses stunning photographs, fabulous descriptions and personal tales to take the reader on a journey through the changing seasons within the garden.
The stories of Paradise are further enhanced by absolutely stunning photographs! The crystal clear snaps are an amazing display of colour and the selection of plants and flowers look like a whole other world – I have no doubt I could spend days exploring the gardens, but as they are in Australia I will have to settle for dipping in and out of this beautiful book … for now anyway. Maybe one day, I’ll get to explore the real place!
I found it very interesting to discover more about the history of particular flowers and plants – many I have seen before or had myself but also so many I have heard of but never had the pleasure of seeing first hand. The book is an education in itself!
If you like gardens, then you will love this book – it is educational and inspirational as well as absolutely stunning and definitely deserves 5/5.
