Waitrose sent me their new Dark Chocolate ‘avocado’ Easter egg to try this week, a new item for Easter based around the super fruit loved by millennials everywhere! Don’t worry, it isn’t anything like an avocado, it’s made completely of Belgium chocolate (70% dark chocolate with green coloured white chocolate for the avocado flesh’ and no avocado flavouring at all. It’s slightly tongue-in-cheek to coincide with the popularity of the avocado nowadays.
The hollow egg has a surprising amount of thick chocolate, so thick that I had to smash it with a knife as the egg wouldn’t break or smash under the stress of a table corner! Once you get over it looking like a giant piece of fruit, there is no difference between this and any other high-quality chocolate egg. At £8 and weighing 250g, it’s good value, and makes for a perfect alternative for adult children, or other members of the family who want something more ‘grown up’. Perhaps next year they’ll make different fruits?
The different types of chocolate (white, dark and dusted cocoa) also makes it easy to eat. My family and friends liked this new version of the Easter egg after there being so much publicity about other certain brands changing the format of their chocolate that this was a good alternative.
This Waitrose own-brand chocolate avocado uses high quality chocolate and no gimmicks. The 70% Belgium chocolate isn’t too dark to make it niche – it still has a sweet taste and the ‘stone’ in the middle is dusted in cocoa. It’s a great talking point too!
Online and instore at £8 for 250g it’s available now until Easter.
