On Saturday night my husband and I attended Buxton Opera House to review Waterloo – The Best of ABBA Tribute Show.

We arrived just before 7.30 to collect out tickets. There were quite a few visitors for the show dressed in ABBA costumes. There was a wide range of ages of visitors attending the show.

The show started promptly at 7:30. The band came on the stage dressed in true ABBA style outfits. The band did their best to resemble to original band of Agnetha, Bjorn, Benny and Anni-Frid with both appearance and outfits. The show commenced, each song sane was truly amazing. The singing was of great quality and did not disappoint. The band backing the ABBA stars we unique and extremely talented.

The audience were thoroughly enjoying the music signing and clapping along. Many audience members were up on their feet dancing in the aisles. Many of the catchy wonderful songs and melodies were sang. They did a great job of recreating the 1974 winning European vision phenomena ‘Waterloo’ which had the audience wanting more!!!

There were several costume changes throughout the show and each and every costume was true ABBA style some with and without hats. The platform boots as you would have guessed made an appearance. Let face it, it would not have been ABBA without the platforms.

The stage settings were fitting for the ABBA era. I imagine this is how it would of ben back in the day watching ABBA in concern. Each song was note prefect. The lighting and sound were also spot on. The production was pulled together it a fitting manner with ‘Waterloo’ making its appearance within the second half. They sang my all-time favour “Gimme gimme gimme” and “Thank you for the music”. Wow what show, a must for a true party night and a night to remember with many many all-time classics. ABBA will never ever die and a remarkable tribute. The band is a true credit to ABBA and they would be proud.

As always, the Buxton Opera House never fails to disappointment. It is a remarkable venue for such productions the architecture at the building is both eye catching and elegant décor in such an old historical building. The venue offers refreshments with a few bars and snacks available, plenty of public conveniences which are both well stocked and hygienic. Staff are welcoming, friendly and very helpful. The seating is on three levels and all seats look like they offer good views of the stage. As you would expect there is adequate leg room for such an old venue.

I would give both the venue and show a five out of five star rating.

I would definitely go and see this ABBA tribute again, you will never ever get bored.

Rating: 5/5 thumbs_up
