ZeroWater 12 Cup Water Filter Jug Review

ZeroWater’s 12 Cup ready pour jug is an excellent size, providing 12 cups of water from one full jug. For the thirstier amongst us there is an even larger model (23 cup).

Naturally, the water jug has a removable filter cartridge. ZeroWater boasts its ‘premium’ filtration system, combining five technologies that work together to remove virtually all dissolved solids from your water (up to 99.6 per cent of all dissolved solids and 99 per cent of fluoride) for the purest tap water possible. The advanced five stage filtration is very different from traditional carbon-based 2-stage filters. The filter system removes 18,000 meg of impurities from tap water. The ZeroWater jugs are the only pour-through filter pitchers on the market certified by the NSF to reduce both lead and chromium.

The five-layer order of filtration starts with an activated carbon and oxidation reduction alloy to remove the chlorine taste, followed by the ‘Ion Exchange’ stage that removes dissolved solids such as aluminium, lead, zinc and nitrate. Three more filter stages further refine the water. The goal is to achieve a ‘000’ reading on the digital water quality meter, included with the filter jug. The meter slots nicely to the top of the jug, meaning that it is always on for testing purposes. For comparison, the FDS requires the Total Dissolved Solids (TDS) in purified bottled water to reach a filtration level between 000-010ppm. ZeroWater is the only filter in its class to achieve this level.

To fill/top up the jug remove the entire lid and run the tap water over the filter. The spout had a cover which flips up when poured. The jug is no spill, no leak.

Filters cost around £50.00 for a pack of four (£12.99 if bought in single unit). I guess it is a bit like buying razor blades for a razor if you buy bottled water when shopping. I am sure the cost of a water filter jug, a good drinks bottle and replace water cartridges will work out cheap in the long run. In order to determine when to change the cartridge you have to conduct regular tests.

The jug fits nicely into the fridge for easy storage. It is proving to be a key product within our household. Guess what, it is making us all drink more water – bonus.
