We visited Ziggy’s on a cold wet December afternoon. I took my husband, 2 year old and 10 week old sons. Parking was ample at this time of year immediately opposite the restaurant; there are also car parks within easy walking distance.
From the beginning we were made to feel welcome: a high chair was provided and when my toddler refused, a booster seat. He was given a drawing board to occupy himself, which was very gratefully received! My baby, still in his buggy was accommodated easily at the table despite the restaurant being of a fairly compact size, and not an eyelid was bat at my starting to breastfeed.
The restaurant is as mentioned fairly small, but this offers a cosy atmosphere and the staff are informal and friendly. The single ladies’ bathroom is small but perfectly formed, clean, and has all the essentials, including a baby change unit. Decor is of the “Hard Rock” style with memorabilia from famous performers but does not mimic the chain restaurant and feels individual and personal to the owner.
The menu is billed as “American” and offers your typical fayre of burgers, nachos, fries and the like. Prices are reasonable and there is a wide selection available. Kids are accommodated with generous children’s portions. We chose macaroni cheese for my toddler, I had the burrito with ground beef and my husband had one of the specialty gourmet burgers with haggis. We had cheesy garlic bread to start. The waitress was smart and offered our toddler’s meal with our starter. All plates were tasty, piping hot and filled our stomachs well. There were no surprises: the food was exactly as expected and in no way over ambitious.
Service was prompt and our dishes cleared soon after each course. We were offered the dessert menu and whilst neither I nor my husband ordered dessert, my son certainly enjoyed his chocolate ice cream, as did we when allowed the odd spoonful!
We were left to our own devices following freshly brewed coffee and were not hurried or encouraged to leave. When we finally did we were courteously helped with the buggy, a very much appreciated gesture.
We were very happy following our meal at Ziggy’s. The restaurant does not pretend to be anything it is not and offers tasty food at reasonable prices. The service is outstanding and the atmosphere enjoyable. We would definitely eat there again if in the area.
